Nepal Medical Association (NMA) is the only professional organization of Medical and Dental Doctors in Nepal, has been striving with great zeal for the common interests of the medical professionals and has thus contributed significantly towards the overall improvement of the health services in the country from its establishment on 20th Falgun, 2007 BS (4th March, 1951). The life-long dedication, committment and devotion of many of our senior colleagues and friends have enabled this organization to come to the present status. It has been organizing conferences in various locations around the country since its establishment.
Hoping of highly relevance theme of the present conference, ” Health System in Federal Nepal: “Opportunity & Challenges” has been chosen for achieving the goal with the recent context of our country. The conference will be held on 27-29 February 2020 (15-17 Falgun 2076) at Pokhara-Kaski, Province No. 4.
The governance in Nepal underwent a significant change after the promulgation of the Constitution of Nepal in September 2015. The country is administratively divided into 753 local government units, seven provincial governments and a central government. The federal governance redistributed the decision making power and resources among the central, provincial and local governments in all sectors including health. In juxtaposition to the political scenario, health system in Nepal is functioning under a new governance with Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) at the central level, Ministry of Social Development at the provincial level and health section or health department under the local level governments. In this regards, we will discuss about possible opportunities and challenges that Nepal could face in its journey to health coverage in the federal governance.
I am honored and privileged to serve as the president of the Nepal Medical Association (NMA) 2016-2019. I worked these three years with much enthusiasm and vitality keeping in mind of what has been achieved and the visions generated from many discussions among the executive members and other medical professionals.
This conference will provide a great opportunity for interaction of different stakeholders with concerned authority to motivate and to implement the concept of Health for All. The role of Health professional is widening day by day, mostly in the developing countries like Nepal. In this prime concern, this conference is dedicated in providing information and knowledge that will help us to our motive. I am confident, that all researches, interactions and conferences held in the past, will lead, educate and expedite us for a better health services for the needy people.
Therefore, I would like to encourage you to take part in the candid discussions, so that the conference and its outcome will be more academic and fruitful.
